How to do Foaming test for a string filter cartridge?

First, why do we need string wound filter cartridge NO foaming?

1 – Silicon oil on string material leads to foaming.

Most of the string factories add silicon oil when they are spinning. Maybe you would ask: can you spin strings without silicon oil? The answer is yes. We can use animal oil and another formula to replace silicon oil. However, Silicon oil is the cheapest and the easiest to buy.

2 – Why do we need string wound filter cartridges with no silicon?

String wound cartridges are widely used in:

Prefiltration of RO Desalination;

Oil & Gas;

Petrochemicals;

Food & Beverage;

Semiconductor;

Municipal water.

With those applications, we can see some like food and beverage earnestly request no silicon and no foaming.

The painting industry strictly controls silicon and foaming because they will seriously impact the paint quality.

3 – How can we get a silicon-free, no foaming string wound filter cartridge?

Wash the strings.

We can make silicon content < 0.05% with washing strings. We sometimes see the factories say: washed string wound. Why washed? It’s for no foaming and silicon control.

4 – How to test your string wound washed or not?

Step – 1: cut a piece of string material from the string wound filter cartridge;

Step – 2: put clean water into a bottle, with a temperature of around 30℃;

Step – 3: put the piece of string material into the bottle, cover the lid, and shake it intensely for 30 seconds.

Step – 4: Wait for 1 minute, check if there are white bubbles on the water surface and the liquid transparent.

Clear No bubble: acceptable. No foaming.

Clear No bubble: acceptable.


Turbid: unacceptable. It’s foaming.

Turbid: unacceptable.
